Local households generously donated about 14,000 pounds of food last week to the Love, Inc. Food Pantry Program through the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. The Food Drive is held each year on the second Saturday in May. It’s the time of year when pantry shelves grow emptier from the long winter months and need a boost of food and other grocery items to help families through the summer months when their children can’t access school food programs. The nationally coordinated effort was started in the early 1990’s to help fight hunger in America.

In 2018 alone, there were 12,716 visits made to the Love, Inc. Food Pantry in Burlington by families and individuals facing poverty and situational hardship. Food Drives such as this one from the Postal Workers are vital in keeping the pantry shelves stocked for qualifying community members in need of assistance. A huge thank you and appreciation goes out to the letter carriers, contributing households and the pantry volunteers who worked overtime to help with the collecting, sorting and shelving of donated items. We couldn’t do it without you!
